Let’s begin by unlocking the flavors and learning about the essence behind some of the most popular foods in Kenya such as Ugali and Pilau.
1. Kenyan Pilau

Ingredients: Pilau sauce (basmati rice, beef or chicken, onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and pilau masala).
The Kenyan pilau is a tasty, aromatic, and savory rice delicacy. In a pan, sauté onions, tomatoes, garlic, and gingers. Throw in some pilau masala, you say? The rice and meat must be mixed into each other and cooked until the rice absorbs all the aromatic spices. This comes out as a nice one-pot wonder.
2. Ugali

Ingredients: Maize flour, water
Ugali is Kenya’s national dish and an essential meal in the country’s daily life. Boil water slowly while gradually adding cornmeal into it until you get a lumpy dough-like consistency. Pair it with sukuma wiki (collard greens), nyama choma (grilled meat), eggs or any of your preferred stews.
3. Nyama Choma

Ingredients: beef or goat meat, salt, pepper, vegetable oil and lemon juice.
This is one of the most loved delicacies in Kenya. Rub the meat chunks with salt, pepper, vegetable oil, and lemon juice and let marinate them for one or two hours. Grill until charred and succulent. Have it with kachumbari (a tomato salad) for a full-blown taste.
5. Chapati

Ingredients: Flour, water, salt, and a vegetable oil.
Chapati, the Kenyan flat bread adds delight to any meal. Make a dough with the said ingredients until it forms a soft dough. Roll it into balls; flatten out; then brown it lightly in a heated pan with some oil. Serve with stews, vegetables, or your favourite Kenyan curry.
